“Change is the most basic condition of our universe” – Robert Irwin

There would be nothing without change, no growth, no life. There would be nothing to perceive, learn, or discover.

Through collaborating with materials and processes that hold an inherent ability to transform, I am granted the opportunity to witness these changes as they occur on the surface of a canvas. Through oxidizing metals, drawing with smoke, suspending pigments in water only to then evaporate it, I expose the effects of the other unseen materials I handle: time, movement, and gravity. All of which play a role in the visual outcomes.

Hovering somewhere between two rivaling descriptions like growing or decaying, present or fading, the results are moments of transformation. They reflect the forces used to create them, and the forces that are forever acting upon us and our surroundings.
